The consequences of tick-borne illness can be devastating. Nowhere is the disease more evident and debilitating than in the nervous system. I will talk about some of the mechanisms by which the infectious process affects the brain and peripheral nervous system and share what I have learned in my personal 30-year journey with this illness, and my 16 years as a physician treating Lyme disease.
Dr. Williams is a physician and psychiatrist in private practice in the Seattle area. She is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. In addition, Dr Williams did a fellowship in Child and Adolescent psychiatry at Oregon Health Sciences University. Dr Williams has a long-standing interest in chronic illness and the effects of infection on the nervous system She has been treating Chronic Fatigue syndrome, Fibromyalgia and PANDAS since 1996. In 2006, Dr. Williams completed ILADS training in Lyme disease and has been treating tick-borne illness since that time. She is a regular speaker at ILADS, has served on the board of Director of ILADS and has given numerous talks around the country on neuropsychiatric, hormonal, immunological and inflammatory syndromes caused by Tick-borne disease.
